ALL THE HEORIC FRENZIES (Dialogue Edit, 2020) A visual poem re-enacting a video by the actor Henry Cavill building his own Gaming PC step by step with the artist´s own Computer parts into a functioning machine. A comment on the frenzy of PC building and modding culture in concrete form, putting both videos in sync and mirroring each other.

Conceived as a visual poem based on the private video of a Hollywood celebrity (Superman (2013) and The Witcher (2019, Netflix)) and a text by a Renaissance heretic from 1585. Embedded in a polyfon composition of the same year (Missa tu es pastor ovium by Giovanni Pierluigi Palestrina) as a celebration and affirmative critique of what „male art“ could be – e.g. a heroic frenzy.

Turning it into art the artist poses the question of the profane celebrity culture turning “sacred” with an almost religious follower ship. In addition it tackles the gender debate, reusing the question put out by Giordano Bruno about five centuries beforehand: what are men interested in, other than women? The VIDEO: Closely referencing shot by shot Henry Cavill´s video „All The Parts“ building a PC, mirroring the dialogue structure in Giordano Bruno’s work from 1585 “The Heroic Frenzies” and changing Cavill’s overlay text into quotations from Bruno. The TEXT: Extracting parts written by the „lost monk“ in the first argument of the book serving as the architecture of the questions posed. Bruno with his history of controversial speeches and long battles with church authorities may have failed in social engineering at his time, but was creating a legacy through his writing and untimely death. How would Bruno use the digital realm for the distribution of his speeches, using modern marketing and social media, if he would live in our times? Would it result in an example of cancel culture rather than at a burning stake?

THE SOUND:  As a counterpoint the underlying score features a contemporary of Bruno, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594) with the first part of his Missa tu es pastor ovium, also from 1585, translated from the original notes and turned into a synthetic instrumentation.The contemporary parts are composed and arranged by the artist is interlaced with the voices of the Missa translated into digital form.

TUTTI GLI EROICI FURORI (2020) Una poesia visiva in dialogo con una celebrità che rievoca un video della cultura della costruzione e del modding del PC, un testo di un eretico rinascimentale del 1585 e una composizione polifonica dello stesso anno come celebrazione e critica affermativa di ciò che “l’arte maschile” potrebbe essere – ad es una frenesia eroica. Trasformandola in arte, l’artista austriaco HECK pone la questione della cultura profana delle celebrità che diventa “sacra” con una followership quasi religiosa. Inoltre affronta il dibattito di genere, riutilizzando la domanda posta da Giordano Bruno circa cinque secoli prima: a cosa interessano gli uomini, oltre alle donne?

Il VIDEO fa strettamente riferimento a un’altra voce ripresa per ripresa (il video di Henry Cavill “Tutte le parti” che costruisce un PC) che rispecchia la struttura dei dialoghi nell’opera di Giordano Bruno del 1585 – De Gli Eroici Furori – e cambia la dedica del testo a Cavill. L’attore noto per i suoi ruoli di Superman (2013) e The Witcher (2019, Netflix) è considerato un’icona della mascolinità ha aggregato con il suo video non sponsorizzato oltre 58.000 commenti sul suo canale instagram con 14,7 milioni di follower.

Il TESTO estrae parti scritte dal “monaco perduto” nel primo argomento del libro e funge da architettura delle domande poste. Bruno con la sua storia di discorsi controversi e lunghe battaglie con le autorità ecclesiastiche potrebbe aver fallito nell’ingegneria sociale ai suoi tempi, ma creando un’eredità attraverso la sua scrittura e la sua morte prematura. In che modo Bruno userebbe il regno digitale come mezzo per la distribuzione, la parola e il marketing, se vivesse ai nostri tempi? Risulterebbe nella “Cancel culture” piuttosto che in un rogo ardente?

IL SUONO A fare da contrappunto la partitura sottostante presenta un contemporaneo di Bruno, Giovanni Perluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594) con la prima parte della sua Missa tu es pastor ovium, sempre del 1585. Composto e arrangiato dall’artista si intreccia alle voci della Missa tradotta in forma digitale e suonata da strumenti digitali.
